Using Twitter to Talk About Teaching/Scholarship

Here is a good article from The Chronicle about using Twitter to talk about teaching and scholarship. I follow other scholars in my field on Twitter. Often I am made aware of articles that are published in journals that are not on my frequently consulted list. I also have been able to dialogue with others who are researching in areas closely related to mine.

Tweetups are another way to engage with other professors and scholars in your field. Tweetups are essentially a social media meetup. Thoughts and questions are exchanged in 140 characters in this format.

I have met many people that I have communicated with on Twitter at conferences and symposiums. Since we have already established a level of communication via social media our face time is not all about surface level banter. Twitter really is a great way to dialogue with other scholars in your field.

Have you been a part of tweetups with other scholars? Do you communicate and glean other information from other scholars and professors on Twitter? If so, tell us about it.
